Save Jericho May 16, 2007, CBS announced its 2007-2008 primetime slate. Jericho was not on it. The network has decided that it wasn't worth the fight to re-launch it for a second season. For over 2 weeks, Jericho's fans have been telling CBS its wrong. Over the past season Jericho, Kansas has become the place we faithfully visit every Wednesday night (and for some - on several additional nights during the week). It has become our second home. This is where we make our stand! We are tired of the networks (not just CBS) tossing aside quality programming. Most of us have never tried to fight for a TV show. They had cancelled what had been one of it’s best new shows for 2006-2007 television season… Jericho. The Corporate Broadcasting System underestimated 8 million Jericho fans who reacted immediately and embarked on a grassroots mission to let The Corporate Broadcasting System know what they wanted. U2 is a rock band from Dublin, Ireland. Formed in 1976, U2 have consistently been one of the most popular acts in the world since the mid-1980s. The band has sold upwards of 170 million albums worldwide. With six #1 albums in the U.S. and nine #1 albums in the UK, U2 are one of the most successful bands of all time. They have won 22 Grammy awards. The band was formed when Bono (vocals and guitar), The Edge (guitar, keyboards and vocals) and Adam Clayton (bass guitar) answered an advert placed by Larry Mullen Jr. (drums and percussion); they were teenagers at the time with limited musical proficiency. By the mid 1980s, however, they had released four albums and developed a devoted international following, largely from extensive touring and from forging a trademark sound based upon The Edge's distinctively innovative and echoing guitar and Bono's impassioned vocals and deeply introspective lyrics. They reached a level of mega-stardom with their highly praised 1987 release The Joshua Tree. In the early 1990s, they replied to the dance and alternative music revolutions, criticism of their image, and their own sense of musical stagnation, with the critically-acclaimed Achtung Baby and the groundbreaking Zoo TV Tour. Although U2 had already developed a reputation for pursuing new musical paths with each new album, this time the band had ostensibly re-invented themselves; this experimentation was to continue for the rest of the 1990s. In the early years of the 21st century, U2 have pursued a more traditional sound while maintaining some influence of their previous musical explorations, and continue to enjoy the highest level of commercial and critical success. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked U2 number 22 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. In 2005, U2 were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the first year they were eligible. The band is known for being politically active in human rights and social justice causes, such as Amnesty International, Make Poverty History, the ONE Campaign, Live Aid, Live 8, Bono's DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade in Africa) campaign, and The Edge's Music Rising.

Dire Straits was a British rock band, formed in 1977 by Mark Knopfler (guitar and vocals), his brother David Knopfler (guitar), John Illsley (bass), and Pick Withers (drums), and managed by Ed Bicknell. Although the band was formed in an era when punk rock reigned, Dire Straits worked within the conventions of classic rock, albeit with a stripped-down sound that appealed to modern audiences weary of the overproduced stadium rock of the 1970s. In their early days, Mark and David requested that pub owners turn down the amps so that patrons could converse while the band played — indicative of their unassuming demeanor. Despite this oddly self-effacing approach to rock and roll, Dire Straits soon became hugely successful with their first album going multi-platinum globally. The band's best-known songs include "Sultans of Swing," "Romeo and Juliet," "Private Investigations," "Money for Nothing," "Walk of Life," "Your Latest Trick," "Heavy Fuel," "So Far Away", and "Brothers in Arms." Dire Straits recorded and released their first album, Dire Straits, in 1978 for £12,500.[citation needed] The album was recorded at Basing Street studios (now known as 'Sarm West') near Portobello Road in West London. It was initially released in the UK on Vertigo, a division of Phonogram. Karin Berg, an assistant in the artists and repertoire (A&R) department of Warner Brothers Records in New York City heard Dire Straits' first British album and felt it was the kind of music that audiences were hungry for. Unfortunately, only one person in her department agreed. "Other people didn't hear it," she recalls. "The act was doing poorly in the U.K., and the record wasn't getting air play. It was totally out of left field. But we fought through and took it to the label (Warner Brothers.) We signed it, put out the record and it went platinum." Later, re-released as a single, "Sultans of Swing" became a surprise UK chart hit, making the top 10. The group's second album, Communiqué followed in 1979, resulting in a typical situation of the time, Communiqué showing as number one in the German album charts with Dire Straits simultaneously at number 3. It is their least-selling album by some distance. Both albums are characterised by a stripped-down sound. However, this would change with those that followed. The band's line-up would also change over the years, but Mark Knopfler and John Illsley played together till the dissolution of Dire Straits, the only two founding members to do so.
