Panning for Gold with a Batea
Rate: 7.25 505 views
Now, here is a terrific example of using a batea gold pan. These placer miners from the Phillipines are panning for gold using a very well worn smaller sized metal batea gold pan to separate their gold from the material they have taken out of their sluice box. Notice the lack of riffles in the sluice and how slowly the water is run through the box. Now, the beginning of this video starts out slow, but watch as the man very skillfully separates the powder gold from the heavier material. These guy would probably like to get their hands on one of the more modern plasic pans, but skill with a gold pan requires practice, no mater what type of gold pan you use. I was fascinated by the technique and skill this man uses with the batea gold pan. The batea does not separate as quickly as some othe gold pans do, but in the right hands it is a truly efficent tool. Bateas are used by many of the European competition gold panners and do very well in the competitions. The batea classifies very quickly to the bottom of the pan, but users lose time separating the flakes from the black sand. Other pans classify slower, but separae faster in the right hands. All in all, a very nice video on the use of a gold pan, and the equipment used in the sluicing was very interesting as well. for more information on gold panning and prospecting visit www.hookedongold.com. Dredging in the river
Rate: 7.57143 480 views
For those of you who are interested in the pursuit of gold, here is a video on dreging in a river in Indiana....that's right, Indiana. Now you are going to say,"just what kind of gold can you find in Indiana?" Well, I'd say pretty good. This guy picks up some nice flakes and small nuggets in his dredge in about 3 hours and says he picked up about a gram for his work. Not bad. And, it's Indiana. You wouldn't think you could get much gold dredging in the river there. Surprisingly, most states have gold deposits of one type or another. Not all gold is found in the mountains, and a good day of dredging on the river, might be in your own back yard....or close to it. A little research of your area will usually turn up some areas that you could check out and not have to go too far. Gold is heavy and will settle out in certain places regardless of whether they are in Kansas or California. All you need is for it to be present. Metal Detecting for Reef Gold in Australia
Rate: 10 458 views
Prospectors! Here is a newly submitted video on metal detecting with a minelab for reef gold in Australia. Gold in quartz found in Sutralia is often referred to as "reef gold" as the gold was deposited in "reefs" of quartz. The chunky, often crytalized or wire pieces are highly prized around the world for their purity of around 22 Karats in the gold content. This machine SCREAMS with the overload. I know this sound and it is exciting the first time you hear it. Only wish we could have seen what was in the bottom of the hole! Dustless Dry Washer
Rate: 8 358 views
Well, this certainly is an interesting piece of machinery. I seems, however, that recirculating the dust off of the dry washer will overload the blower mechanism (which has plastic blades), and clog the fabric under the washer with excess dirt. When you add additional material to the upper box, you may overload the machine and it might not be able to settle the gold out before it gets run over. I seems to work well for the inventor, but there are a few questions that the video doesn't go over. What do you think? 1897 Klondike Gold Rush
Rate: 5 296 views
This piece is a very good short chronicle of the 1897 Klondike Gold Rush and the hardships the men (and women) endured to get to the gold in the Klondike. The permafrost was a constant problem once you got to the goldfields, burning the frozen ground to thaw it, and then digging 10's, sometimes 100's of feet to get to the gold. Dawson City boomed. Then it busted. The cost of goods in the Klondike overshadowed the high costs during the California gold rush, when it took an ounce to two ounces PER DAY to make enough to eat and keep yourself. Metal Detecting a ballfield with a Minelab

Coin hunting with a metal detector is a great hobby that can make you money having fun on the weekends. Many detectorists find silver coins each time they go out to their favorite spots as no on ever finds everything there is in a spot due to varing ground conditons, machine, and use of machine. This user is swinging a minelab, but many other detectors do just as well with this type of hunting. Nice 9 minute video. For more information on prospecting go to www.hookedongold.com. Blue Bowl in Action for Cleaning Gold
Rate: 1.5 372 views
Nice video on how the blue bowl runs after you have screened your material down to the size of the gold you are separating. No sound on this one, but it shows very well how the blue bowl separates. Does not show the gold he got out of the sand, and there isn't much black sand in the demo, but the video shows how fast the bowl can work. If you have a small amount of concentrate to separate, the blue bowl will do the trick, but the concentrates must be properly screened for the bowl to work properly.
