SX4 is very low on mileage. Do not expect more than 8 kmpl in Mumbai and 11 on the highway, even the steering is too heavy on the SX4, though the space is good ... Fiesta is good but low resale value after 2 years.

That’s quite a good mileage. My neighbors are getting almost same from there 1.4 petrol. and the traffic is not bad at all here in Chandigarh. Yes, the engine is great and the main reason I think for good mileage is that the car has got good low end torque and short gearing which translates to riding in higher gears in city traffic which in turns means good fuel economy in city and out on highway. The engine is hardly ever stressed to bring the mileage down.
